This spectacular staircase is the central feature to an entrance lobby and atrium.
Using the architects initial design intent, Taunton Fabrications provided a cost value engineered solution and, at the initial tender stage, submitted our proposals for the architects and clients review. Having then been awarded the contract, Taunton Fabrications took full design responsibility for the stair structure and balustrade.
The smooth interface with associated trades was paramount, in particular the lighting requirements - so as to ensure wiring could be accommodated - and those of the stone treads and landings.
The installation was particularly challenging as the site had limited access.Careful sequencing by our contracts department, and that of the main contractor, was implemented to ensure deliveries and craneage was carried out with minimal disruption.
The structural glass balustrade was installed as a second phase with many unique curved panels specially sourced from a European supplier.
The structure was completely fabricated and pre-finished off site. No site painting was required, again reducing the main contractors overall programme and avoiding the need for additional trades.
