M Shed is an exciting and innovative new museum developed on a 1950s transit shed on Bristol’s historic wharf and is due to open in 2011. From the outset the M Shed design brief was extremely demanding.
Our in house design department, using the latest 3D design software and working closely with the architects and BAM Construction, brought the scheme to reality. Structural glass balustrade with 3kn/m design load formed part of the contract but the major element of works, Stair 3, was the centre piece of this contract. The stair was made up of no fewer than 4500 seperate components! These included mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium, glass, perspex and rubber parts in various colours and finishes.
The installation was carried out in phases - the main structure early in the contract and the more pre-finished components at a later stage.
